Our journalism changes things.
The Ferret is an independent, investigative journalism co-operative based in Scotland and owned by its members, not by billionaires or corporations.
We dig into corruption, environmental harm, political influence and human rights abuses. Since 2015, our small team has published more than 2,600 stories which have been read by millions of people and made real world impact. We’ve also opened Scotland’s first community newsroom where anyone can meet us and pitch ideas.
In a world flooded with disinformation and dominated by global tech platforms, trust in news has rarely been lower. That’s why we believe journalism should be transparent, collaborative and fact-based. We don’t chase clicks or breaking news alerts — we go deeper, bringing context, nuance and evidence to the issues that shape people’s lives.
Our members not only fund The Ferret, they help decide what we investigate. Together we’re building a different kind of media, one that is accountable to the public, not to shareholders.
A democratic society needs scrutiny. Your support makes it possible.
